Hi Readers,

There is some confusion around on how to install “SharePoint Server 2010 service packs, Language packs, Hot fixes”

Confusion is whether to install “SharePoint foundation service packs, Language packs, Hot fixes” before installing “SharePoint Server 2010 service packs, Language packs, Hot fixes”.

After researching I have found that  answer to this query is yes, below should be the order :-

SharePoint Server Standard/Enterprise 2010:

  1. Download SharePoint Foundation 2010 SP
  2. Download SharePoint Server SP
  3. Download CU for SharePoint Foundation 2010
  4. Download CU for SharePoint Server 2010
  5. Install SharePoint Foundation 2010 SP
  6. Install SharePoint Server SP
  7. Reboot Server
  8. Once the server has rebooted, follow the same on other SharePoint servers.
  9. start SharePoint Configuration Wizard and complete the process.
  10. Upon completion you should be able to open Central Administration window.
  11. Verify Upgrade Success by checking the version number of database.

You’ve got a new baseline for future CU’s

  1. Install CU for SharePoint Foundation 2010
  2. Install CU for SharePoint Server 2010
  3. Reboot Server
  4. Once the server has rebooted, follow the same on other SharePoint servers.
  5. Upon completion you should be able to open Central Administration window.
  6. Verify Upgrade Success by checking the version number of database.
